Whatcom County Regional Economic Strategy

Work on a Regional Economic Strategy for Whatcom County is underway.  The Northwest Economic Council has partnered with the Center for Economic & Business Research (CEBR) at WWU, as well as several other organizations in the region, to complete the data collection and asset mapping phase of this project.  We recently conducted interviews with key stakeholders and completed a community survey designed to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the business environment in our Region.  The results of this survey, along with data from a variety of sources will set the stage for the development of a Regional Economic Strategy for Whatcom County.

The main goal of creating an economic strategy is to identify and address any potential opportunities and/or weaknesses in the County.  A strategy will also provide NWEC and other agencies involved in economic development a clear directive so that we can work to create and retain the jobs that Whatcom County residents would like to have here.  The first phase of this project is now complete and the various elements of the report are available below.
